What does obedience to God's invitation of grace give you?
Obedience to God's invitation of grace gives righteousness and right standing with God, both now and for all eternity. Scripture contrasts this with serving old Adam, which brings spiritual death. The choice is either obedience to grace resulting in eternal right standing, or obedience to old Adam resulting in death.
Les teaches that no human endeavor—works, church memberships, baptisms, sacraments, elements, or anything else—can accomplish what Paul teaches about justification by faith and putting old Adam to death. Works cannot do that; it must be the work of the Creator God Himself. Les explains that most people still think they must do something, but Paul keeps repeating that you are a servant to whom you give your obedience. If you are a child of Adam, you serve old Adam and are under his control, bringing spiritual death. On the other side, obedience to God's invitation of grace lets you enjoy righteousness, right standing with God, now and for all eternity. It is either/or—the only choice in life.
