How can a Christian stop the old Adam from reigning like a king?

The old sin nature does not have to reign like a king. It is stopped by crucifying the old Adam and letting grace—God in the person of Christ and the Holy Spirit—reign instead. Because the believer is not under law but under grace, the old Adam shall not have dominion over him.

Les teaches that “old Adam” is used synonymously with the old sin nature, and Paul comes back to say that the old Adam shall not have dominion over you. In the previous program, Les stressed how old Adam will reign like a king, or we can crucify him and let grace, or God in the person of Christ and the Holy Spirit, reign as king. The reason the old Adam does not have to reign like a king is that the believer is not under the law but under grace. Les qualifies that not being under the law does not mean casting aside the Ten Commandments, for they are still holy, perfect, the mind of God, and the criteria for social behavior for both Christian and non-Christian. The Ten Commandments are not a criteria of doctrine, so Les has no compunction about having them in public schools, since they are simply the mind of God and everything in them is for mankind’s own good.
