What did Jesus mean by 'the hour is come that the Son of Man should be glorified'?

Jesus meant that His glorification would come through His death, burial, and resurrection. Using the kernel of wheat, He showed that a seed must fall into the ground, be buried, and die before it can bring forth much fruit. His death would not end in isolation but produce fruit.

Les teaches that when Andrew and Philip told Jesus Gentiles were asking for Him, Jesus did not say to bring them in. Instead He said the hour is come that the Son of Man should be glorified. Les explains this speaks of His death, burial, and resurrection, which were only about 48 hours away. Jesus used the common kernel of wheat: if left in a granary, it would never reproduce and abides alone; but when planted—buried—it dies, rots, and then brings a new green shoot, a stem, and maybe a hundred kernels. Les says Jesus applied that simple illustration directly to His own death, burial, and resurrection.
