What does Paul teach about sin abounding and grace abounding?

Paul teaches that the old Adam abounds with sin, but where sin abounds, the grace of God is always greater. Sin reigned like a king over individuals and humanity through old Adam, yet grace is to reign like a king as the greater alternative.

Les explains that Paul is showing the old Adam abounds with sin, but where sin abounds, the grace of God is always greater. He points to verse 21, where sin—the old Adam—has reigned like a king over us as individuals and over humanity as a whole. Even so, grace might reign like a king. Les illustrates the old Adam's free course with soldiers away from home who do things they would not do in their hometown, and with invading armies that can pillage a community. These show the two alternatives: sin's reign through old Adam and grace's greater reign.
