How was Christ's obedience like Isaac's obedience?
Christ's obedience resembled Isaac's in that both were totally obedient and did not resist. Isaac did not fight back when Abraham laid him on the altar. Christ, though equal with God, made Himself of no reputation and lowered Himself from Creator to a man walking dusty Palestine.
Les explains that Christ was absolutely obedient, just as surely as Isaac when Abraham laid him on the altar. Scripture gives no indication that Isaac fought back; he was totally obedient to the wishes of his father Abraham. In Philippians 2, the same mindset is seen in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God. He did not have to do this because He was equal with God, yet He made Himself of no reputation. He did it Himself. He lowered Himself from being the almighty Creator God to a man walking the streets of dusty Palestine. That self-humbling obedience parallels Isaac's submission.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
