Why are some people not saved if all have had an opportunity?
Some people are not saved because they choose not to be; Scripture makes plain that all have had their opportunity. Salvation is God’s gift by grace through Jesus Christ, not something earned, worked for, or merited. Those who insist on working for it reject the gift He provides.
Les teaches that the reason is not a lack of opportunity. The Scripture makes plain that all have had their opportunity, but some have chosen not to be saved. He acknowledges this is hard to swallow, yet God in His sovereignty understands and has explained it in Scripture. Les also stresses that salvation is a gift of grace by one man, Jesus Christ, and not something you work for, deserve, or merit. If a person says they must do something for salvation, it will not fit, because it is a gift. Gifts are not earned; they come from the goodness of the giver’s heart. God has given salvation to the human race out of the goodness of His heart. When people instead say they will work for it, He will not stand for it. The gift by grace is by one man, Jesus Christ, and it has abounded unto many. Paul refers to Him as the man, which does not take away from His deity; it accords with His virgin birth as God in the flesh and the God-man.
