How did Adam become a living soul?

Scripture states that the first man Adam was made a living soul when God breathed into him the breath of life. This is recorded in Genesis chapter 2 and quoted in 1 Corinthians 15:45, where Adam is called the first man and contrasted with the last Adam, Christ.

Les explains that 1 Corinthians 15:45 refers back to Genesis chapter 2, where God breathed into Adam the breath of life and he became a living soul. The same verse contrasts the first Adam with the last Adam, Jesus Christ, who is a quickening spirit. Les says quickening means life-giving, and he connects this to Ephesians 2:1, where those dead in trespasses and sin are quickened, made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:45

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
