How is Jesus portrayed in Matthew's Gospel?
Matthew's Gospel portrays Jesus as the King, the human king who would one day rule on David's throne. His lineage runs through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and down David's royal family. Matthew presents Him in His humanity, one of the Synoptic Gospels focused on that human side.
The teaching explains that Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the Synoptic Gospels because they deal with Christ in His humanity. Matthew specifically depicts Him as the King, who would one day rule on David's throne as a human king. His genealogy comes up through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and down David's royal family. By contrast, John depicts Him as the Son of God in His deity. Matthew, Mark, and Luke also record His wilderness temptations, while John does not, because those temptations affected His human side, not His deity.
