What does atonement mean?

Atonement means being made at one with God Himself as a result of that shed blood, the work of the cross. It is the reconciliation by which the shed blood and the cross bring the believer into oneness with God.

Les teaches that atonement means we have been made at one with God Himself as a result of that shed blood, the work of the cross. He then moves into verse 12, where Paul bridges information found nowhere else in Scripture—truths Jesus never mentioned and the Old Testament does not teach. Paul ties sin back to Adam and shows how it carries over into the whole human race. Atonement, in this context, is the reconciliation accomplished through the cross that brings believers into oneness with God.
