Does God love people who are His enemies?
Yes. Though lost humanity is alienated and described as enemies of God, God does not stop loving His enemies. He continues pouring out His grace upon them and offering salvation. Romans 5:10 declares that while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.
Les teaches that lost people are not under God's control but are actually enemies and aliens, and until they come God's way that is how He views the mass of humanity. Yet Les emphasizes that although they are enemies, God does not stop loving His enemies; He keeps pouring out His grace and offering salvation. He points to Romans 5:10, where Paul writes that when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. Reconciliation is a crucial term in Paul's letters: the cross made it not just possible but available to the whole human race. If we were reconciled by His death, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Christ had to die and shed His blood for sin, but He did not stay in the grave; He arose victorious over sin, death, and hell, and since He was victorious, believers are. That victory is imputed to their account, giving salvation for this life and all eternity, with eternal life already within them.
