Did Abraham have to repent or be baptized for his faith to be credited as righteousness?

No. Abraham did not have to repent or be baptized, join something, or grovel in the dirt. He simply believed God, and his believing was accounted unto him as righteousness. His justification was not by works or conditional merit, since he did not work; his simple belief was what God credited as righteousness.

Les explains that Abraham, the great man of faith, was not justified by works. If Abraham could have merited favor with God by works, he would have gloried and gotten proud. But he did not work; he did nothing but believe. Scripture says Abraham believed God, and his believing was accounted unto him as righteousness. Les points out that Abraham did not repent, did not get baptized, did not join something, and did not grovel in the dirt—he just simply believed God. Abraham was not morally better or holier than anyone else and later had failures like anyone else, but by faith he pleased God, and God called him a righteous man.

Romans 4:3
