How long will the rewards of believers last?
The rewards of believers will last for all eternity. Scripture indicates that the reward laid up for the faithful is not temporary but is enjoyed forever. Compared with the brief seventy or eighty years of this present life, eternal reward is immeasurably greater and enduring.
Les teaches that the rewards waiting for believers are going to be enjoyed for all eternity. He contrasts that eternal duration with the brief span of this life—seventy or eighty years—and says it is nothing by comparison. The context explains that a believer whose work is burned suffers loss, not of salvation, but of reward; he himself shall be saved, yet he will have no reward. Salvation is based on faith, while works result in reward, and that reward is what should drive the believer to live a fruitful life. Les also notes that in glory there is no sin, sin nature, or Satan, so there will be no envy or jealousy toward those who have gained reward. Paul uses the analogy of Olympic athletes who trained and strove to win, pointing to the reward awaiting believers.
