Are good works necessary for salvation or are they a result of salvation?

Good works are not the means of salvation; they are the result of salvation. Believers are created in Christ Jesus unto good works, and God expects the believer to perform them, but not for salvation. The new creation is because one believes, and good works follow from that salvation.

Les explains that when God transforms a person, forgives them, and makes them His child, that person becomes a symphonic work of art and His workmanship. This is the result of the work of the eternal God because they believe. He compares this salvation to the miracle of creation, saying that when God saves a son of Adam and makes him a new person, it is as great a work of creation as when He created the universe. From that point on, the believer is created into Christ Jesus unto good works. Les stresses that God absolutely expects the believer to perform good works, but not for salvation. They are not the cause or condition of salvation; they are the result of salvation.
