Where was paradise located in relation to torment in Hades?
Paradise was located within Hades, on the side separated from torment by a great gulf fixed. Abraham and Lazarus were in that paradise side, while the rich man was in torment. The gulf prevented crossing between the two, and after the resurrection, paradise was taken to heaven.
Les explains that Old Testament believers, except Enoch and Elijah, went down into paradise rather than heaven. Using the account of Abraham, Lazarus, and the rich man, he describes a great gulf fixed between paradise and torment so they could not cross over. Both were in the area called Hades or hell, but Jesus descended into the paradise side. At His resurrection morning, He took paradise to heaven.
