Les Feldick Bible Study

Why do people break the law according to this teaching?

People break the law because they are sons of Adam and are born sinners. The root cause is being sons of Adam, not individual actions; they are not sinners because they have broken the law, but break the law because they are already sinners.

Les explains that the issue is not that people break the law by doing certain things; rather, the law is broken because they are sons of Adam. He stresses that we are sinners because we are sons of Adam, not sinners because we have broken the law, and that this is hard for people to understand. We are basically born sinners. He then notes that this condition is not hopeless, because of all that God has done: justification. To justify is God’s judicial act whereby He declares the sinner who believes just as if he had never sinned. God justifies freely, without a cause, even though we do not deserve it, when we believe.
