What happened to the Old Testament law economy when God turned to the Gentile?
When God turned to the Gentiles, the Old Testament law economy—Israel's law, temple worship, priesthood, and sacrifices—had to slip off the scene. It was replaced by something totally different: the righteousness of God without the law, now manifested and revealed through Paul as the mystery once hidden in God's mind.
Les teaches that the Old Testament was predominantly the economy of law given to the nation of Israel, who were under the law with their temple worship, priesthood, and sacrifices. But now that God has turned to the Gentile, that law economy naturally had to slip off the scene, and something totally different came in. That different thing is the righteousness of God without the law being manifested, witnessed by the law and the prophets. Les emphasizes Pauline teaching, while also insisting the Old Testament is just as well fitted as the New and all Scripture dovetails together. This language is not found in the Gospels or the Old Testament because it is part of the revelation Paul speaks of—the mystery, the secrets held in the mind of God but now being revealed.
