Are there people in hell who never missed church and relied on their own good works?
Yes. Many souls in hell never missed filling a pew on Sunday morning, maybe even Sunday night. They thought they were gaining salvation through their own good works, but going to church does not gain points for salvation. They were deceived all their lives, trusting self-righteousness instead of the truth.
Les teaches that church attendance is not wrong—he says he is an active church member—but going to church does not gain points for salvation. He states there are many souls in hell who never missed filling their pew Sunday morning, maybe Sunday night, because they thought they were gaining salvation by their own good works. They were fooled all the way through life, riding the tremendous horse loaded with energy to do evil but keeping it curried, calmed, and dressed; if the log had manifested, their beautiful horse would have exploded too. This leads back to Romans 3:21, now on this side of the cross.
