Why should we not look down on the people described in Romans 1?
We should not look down on them because but for the grace of God, we would be no different. Human nature is bent to rebel, and we too could fall into the same rebellion and pagan worship. Only God's grace separates us, and that same grace can rescue them.
Les explains that we should not look down on these people because, but for the grace of God, we would be no different. He notes they had a knowledge of God through the heavens and through Noah and his sons, yet within a few generations they followed a humanist and fell into pagan worship because the old human nature is bent to rebel. Les emphasizes that if he has listeners in such situations, he is not looking down his nose at them, knowing that but for grace he could be there, and that by grace they can also be where he is. He calls this sobering and beautiful.
