When did mankind first reject God's authority?

Mankind first rejected God's authority at the Tower of Babel, when Nimrod, the first world totalitarian despot, gathered people into a religious system meant to usurp heaven's throne. This occurred within roughly 200 years after the Flood, only a generation or two from the eight survivors, and became the beginning of all pagan idolatry.

Les explains that the New Age movement ultimately seeks to bring the world back under the same idolatry that began at the Tower of Babel. Man first rejected God and His authority when Nimrod, described as a hunter of men and the first world's totalitarian despot, brought them to Babel. This was not merely about building with clay and pitch; Nimrod was setting up a religion. Their reaching to heaven meant a religious system that would usurp the very throne room of heaven. That is where the beginning of all pagan idolatry lies. Before the Flood there was no idolatry, no temple worship, and no organized worship. After the Flood, Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives had a knowledge of God. Yet within 200 years, only a generation or two, the expanding population gathered around the Tower of Babel and was ready to embrace pagan worship.
