Les Feldick Bible Study

How can people from false religions sound like they know the Bible when they really know nothing?

People from false religions can sound biblically knowledgeable because they use the right terminology, speaking of the Lord and the Holy Spirit as if they understand. Yet they know nothing truly; they twist the Scriptures to their own destruction, as Peter indicates. Their familiar words create an appearance of knowledge without its reality.

Les explains that even a rank liberal or someone from a different religion altogether can speak of the Lord and the Holy Spirit in a way that makes you think they know what they are talking about, when in fact they know nothing. The reason is that they use the right terminology. Les connects this to what Peter means: such people twist the Scriptures to their own destruction. After making that point, Les returns to Romans chapter 1, verse 16, where Paul says he is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, the one Gospel that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, which is the power of God unto salvation.
