Can human beings produce or touch the power of God?
No. The power of God is not something human beings can produce or even begin to touch; it is extraneous to anything human. Scripture calls the preaching of the cross the power of God. Salvation cannot be earned by works; people can only receive what God has offered.
Les explains that to the saved, the Gospel, the preaching of the Cross, is not merely a ticket to Heaven; it is the power of God. He says this flies in the face of Reformers and good-works people who claim we must earn our way into Heaven. Instead, there is nothing we can do but take what God has offered. Les then points to verse 23: Christ crucified is a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Greeks, but to those called, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He concludes that this is a power man cannot even begin to touch, a power extraneous to anything human.
