In Romans 1:1-2, who promised the gospel beforehand and through whom?
Scripture states that God promised the gospel beforehand by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures. That promise concerned His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who is made of the seed of David according to the flesh. This is the Gospel of God to which Paul was separated.
Les teaches that Paul was uniquely called of God to be the Apostle of the Gentiles—not one of many, but THE Apostle. Others follow in his footsteps, yet Paul is the one to whom we must go for our basic doctrines. In Romans 1:2, Les explains that God had promised the gospel beforehand by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. This promised Son is made of the seed of David according to the flesh. Les connects the seed of David back to Genesis 3:15, the seed of the woman who would crush the head of the servant, calling it the promised line of redemption, the scarlet thread of salvation that runs through Scripture. He also notes the Abrahamic covenant in Genesis 12 and Paul's teaching in Galatians, and says he could spend five years in Romans.
