Les Feldick Bible Study

What is saving faith according to this teaching?

Saving faith is faith plus nothing, trusting the finished work of Christ alone. It is not by works of the law. Romans 10:17 teaches faith comes by hearing, and hearing is not a work; it is the hearing of faith.

Les explains that salvation is faith plus nothing, not faith plus works. He distinguishes the Christian experience from salvation itself, saying if salvation is not faith plus nothing, then Christ died for nothing and His death was in vain. Paul asked the bewitched whether they received the Spirit by works of the law or by the hearing of faith. Comparing Scripture with Scripture, Les points to Romans 10:17: saving faith, the kind that needs nothing else, comes by hearing. Hearing is not a work.

Romans 10:17

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
