Why are preachers afraid to give their congregations the truth?

Preachers often fear losing the big giver and having members become disgruntled, so they avoid giving the truth. They prefer comfortable, ear-tickling messages because they dread the consequences. In contrast, Paul was not afraid of anyone and did not back down from declaring his gospel.

Les explains that he himself could never stand before people and give them warm soup or something to tickle their ears out of fear of consequences. He tells of a brother whose pastor preached almost identically on Wednesday nights but said 'I don't dare' preach that way Sunday morning. Les says preachers are afraid to give people the truth because they fear losing the big giver or having some people get disgruntled with them. Paul, by contrast, was not afraid of anybody; he loved everyone but would not back down from preaching and declaring his gospel because he knew the consequences.
