Why should we become skilled in the Scripture?
We should become skilled in Scripture so that when we have an opportunity to share it with someone, we can confidently turn to specific verses and show what the Word truly says, rather than stumbling. God ordinarily uses human instruments, not angels, to lead another person to a knowledge of salvation.
Les teaches that God did not leave the Word in the hands of angels but in the hands of people. He has almost always used one human instrument to lead another human to a knowledge of salvation. That is why Les wants us to learn and get skilled in the Scripture: so that when we have an opportunity to share this with someone, we don't have to be a stumble-bum, but can simply say, 'Well now this is what it says,' turn them to a few verses, and be able to show someone what the Word really says. That is what we are here for. The account here illustrates this: her heart was opened, she attended to the things Paul said, and she became a believer. Paul was the human instrument God used.
