Who did people need to realize Jesus actually was?
People needed to realize Jesus was not merely a prophet, another individual, or a martyr, but the Creator God Himself. He alone could purchase man’s salvation. If they thought He was just another man, then He could not have everything to do with them.
Les explains that people have to be brought to the place of understanding that Jesus was not just a prophet, not just another individual, and not just a martyr. He was the Creator God, the One who alone could purchase man’s salvation, and people must be made aware of that. Les points out that when Philip preached to the Ethiopian eunuch, the New Testament was not yet written, so Philip used the Old Testament and preached unto him Jesus. The eunuch’s response shows he believed Isaiah 53 was speaking of Jesus, who had walked in Palestine, been put to death, raised from the dead, and was still ready to be Israel’s King if they repented.
