Who did Abraham buy the burial cave from — the sons of Emor or the sons of Heth?
According to Stephen's speech, Abraham bought the burial cave from the sons of Emor, the father of Shechem. However, the Genesis record identifies the sellers as the sons of Heth. The context notes this apparent discrepancy between the two scriptural accounts.
Les explains that in Acts 7, Stephen says the sepulcher was bought from the sons of Emor, the father of Shechem, but he reminds us that Genesis records it as the sons of Heth. Les points out this is the same burial site, the cave of Mephila, a holy site in Israel revered by both Muslims and Jews. It is the burial place of Abraham, Rebekah, Jacob, and Leah. Les notes Abraham bought it from the Canaanites, and Jacob later had to pay for it again.
