Are Grecians and Greeks the same thing in Acts?

No. In Acts, a Grecian is not the same as a Greek. A Grecian was a non-Palestine Jew—a Jewish person living outside Palestine. Greeks, by contrast, are pure Gentiles. Hebrews refers to Jews generally. So the term Grecian describes non-Palestine Jews, not Gentile Greeks.

Les explains that Acts 6:1 records murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, and he cautions that the word Grecian must be carefully defined. A Grecian, he says, was simply a non-Palestine Jew, not a Gentile Greek. Greeks are pure and divine Gentiles. Hebrews are self-explanatory—that is the Jew. These Grecians are non-Palestine Jews. Thus the first signs of trouble in paradise arose when Grecian Jews murmured against the Hebrews.
