Why aren't believers supposed to avenge themselves?
Believers are not to avenge themselves because God is sovereign and in control, and He will be the final avenger. Paul writes, Avenge not yourselves; God will do it for us. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Les explains that although men may dare and get by for a while, God remains sovereign and in control, and He will be the final avenger. Paul therefore says in Romans, “Avenge not yourselves.” Believers do not have to take revenge because God will do it for them. The same passage asks, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” It also points to God not sparing His own Son, proving He will freely give believers everything they need.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
