Was Jesus personally guilty when he was put to death on the tree?
No. He was not personally guilty; He was the innocent Lamb of God, on whom all the guilt of a sinful world was laid. His being hanged on a tree showed the despicableness of His death, but not any personal guilt.
Les explains that Peter's statement about slaying Him and hanging Him on a tree shows the despicableness of His death. It does not mean Jesus Himself was guilty of any of that. Instead, He became the innocent Lamb of God, on whom all the guilt of a sinful world was laid. Les also notes Isaiah 52 says that as He hung on the cross, He was more marred and less human appearing than anyone who ever lived.
