Why were the Sadducees filled with indignation and did they put the apostles in prison?

The Sadducees, religious leaders, were filled with indignation because hearing the truth upset them; they did not want the truth but wanted their religion. Consequently, they laid hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison. Religious people resist the truth.

Les explains that the high priest rose up, along with all who were with him, the sect of the Sadducees, and they were filled with indignation. He notes that religious people have not changed: nothing upsets religious people more than hearing the truth, because they do not want the truth; they want their religion. As some have shared, going back to religious church members often finds they will not listen—they do not want to be bothered and say, “I’m comfortable, leave me alone.” The world is full of religion, and whatever the religion, the stock answer is “Leave me alone.” So these religious Jews were filled with indignation, laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. Then the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors and brought them forth.
