Why are people led down a primrose path by waiting for the pulpit?
People are led down a primrose path when they wait for the pulpit because they are told not to interpret Scripture on their own but to rely on what the church or pulpit says. Since some pulpits are sound while many are not, this dependence keeps people from learning to discern the Scriptures themselves.
Les explains that a lady came back from her denomination’s convention and asked him to read the first paragraph, which said, in effect, do not interpret Scripture on your own; wait until you hear it from behind the pulpit. He says that is where people are getting led down a primrose path, because some pulpits are all right, but there are a lot of them that are not. Therefore, people have to get to the place where they can discern the Scriptures. He does not want people merely to say, “that’s what Les said,” but to see where he has shown what Scripture says and then come back on their own and confirm it. His only reason for teaching is to get people back into the Book.
