What is the Word of God according to this lesson?
The Word of God is not a vague or ethereal mishmash; it is what Almighty God has actually spoken. Scripture illustrates this through the Old Testament prophets, who repeatedly received “the Word of the Lord,” believed it, and wrote it down. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Les explains that the Word of God is not some mishmash floating around in the ethereal; it is something the Almighty God has spoken. He points to Romans 10:17, where faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God. The Old Testament prophets were constantly saying this—Ezekiel, for example, repeatedly said, “The Word of the Lord came to me.” Ezekiel believed it and wrote it. Les also cautions that we cannot assume what God is going to say; we must wait until He has spoken it and then believe it, as Deuteronomy 29:29 teaches that secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things He has revealed are for us.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
