Why were the people filled with wonder and amazement in Acts 3?
The people were filled with wonder and amazement because the man they recognized as the one who sat for alms at the temple’s Beautiful Gate was healed. After Peter and John raised him by the power of the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, he stood, walked, leaped, entered the temple, and praised God.
Les explains that Acts chapter 3 records Peter and John going up to the temple to pray and healing the lame man by the power of the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The man immediately leaped, stood, walked, entered the temple with them, leaping and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God and knew that he was the same one who had sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. That is why they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Les also notes that Israel’s history had seen manifestations of the power of their God, yet it seemed to have so little effect on them.
And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
