How many men believed in Acts chapter 4?

In Acts chapter 4, after many heard the word and believed, the number of the men was about 5,000. This figure follows the earlier 3,000 in chapter 2, showing a growing Jewish believing remnant, though still a small sprinkling compared to millions.

Les explains that the passage records the arrest of Peter and the others, and then notes that many who heard the word believed. He points out that the number of the men was about 5,000. He compares this to the 3,000 in chapter 2 and others in the interim, so now there is a fair number of Jewish believers. Yet out of several million people, it is just a precious few, a sprinkling.

Acts 4:4

Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
