Did the Jewish leaders and Rome know that Jesus was the Lord of glory?
No. Paul writes that none of the princes of this world knew who Jesus was. The Jewish leaders did not know, and Rome certainly did not know. Had they known He was the Lord of glory, they would not have crucified Him. They were still guilty of putting their Messiah to death.
Les explains that Paul's phrase "the princes of this world" includes both the Jewish leaders and Rome. He states plainly that the Jewish leaders did not know who Jesus was, and Rome certainly did not know. Because they did not know He was the Lord of glory, they crucified Him; had they known, they would not have done so. Les also notes that Peter later uses this as an escape route for Israel: they were guilty of putting their Messiah to death, and Israel suffers for it, but God's mercy will return to the nation.
Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
