Do we have the right to assume something is in the Bible when it isn't?

No, we do not have the right to assume something is in Scripture when it isn't there. It is just as important to recognize what Scripture does not say as what it does say, because assuming otherwise has made many people victims of reading into the text what is not present.

Les explains that he and everyone else have been victims of assuming that something is in a Scripture when it isn't there, and he feels we simply do not have the right to do that. He stresses that it is just as important to see what the Scripture does not say as what it does say. As an example, he points to the church as the body of Christ: in Acts, Peter makes no mention that Christ is the head of this called out assembly or that believers are part of Him, but in 1 Corinthians 12 Paul reveals the church which is His body, a called out assembly whose head is in heaven and whose members are the body. This distinction shows why we must not read into Scripture what is absent.
