Why are many churchgoers unfamiliar with 2 Peter 3:15?

Many churchgoers are unfamiliar with 2 Peter 3:15 because, although well-intentioned and well-churched, they do not know these verses are actually in their Bible. This same unfamiliarity appears among students in Bible classes, showing the passage is not known even by those with church background.

Les explains that he wants the camera on 2 Peter 3:15 because many well-intentioned, well-churched people do not know these verses are in their Bible. He says he knows this because he has had too many such people in his classes. Peter wrote these epistles shortly before his martyrdom, about A.D. 65-67, before the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 and Israel went into dispersion. Paul's letters had mostly been written by then, though they may not all have circulated widely yet. The passage says the longsuffering of the Lord is salvation, and Peter refers to beloved brother Paul, who according to the wisdom given him had written unto them.
