If Israel repented in Acts 2, what would God have done?

Acts 3 indicates that if every Israelite had repented of their national sin and recognized that the one they killed was indeed their Messiah and King, God would have sent Christ at that time to be their King and would have set up the kingdom.

Les explains that in Acts 2 Peter answered the nation’s question, “What shall we do?” with “repent and be baptized every one of you.” The pronoun “we” shows God was dealing with the nation of Israel, so the call was for national repentance. Les then points to chapter 3, teaching that if every Jew, every Israelite, had done just that—repented of their national sin and recognized that the one they killed was indeed their Messiah and King—God would have sent Christ at that time to be their King and would have set up the kingdom. He also reminds listeners to look for death, burial, and resurrection as the means of salvation in these early chapters, but it is not there.

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
