How should the hope of the resurrection affect a believer's fear of persecution?
Resurrection hope should free believers from fear of persecution. Being bound in the hope and power of the resurrection means not fearing what persecutors can do to the body of flesh, and having no fear of death, since death is only temporary. That same resurrection power gave the apostles boldness no one could shake.
Les teaches that after the resurrection the twelve men had a boldness that no one could shake, and the reason was the proof of resurrection. Before that, Peter had denied the Lord with oaths and the disciples scattered in fear for their lives. But after resurrection, Rome did not scare them and the Jews did not scare them, because of resurrection power and the proof of it. Les warns that even in America, Bible-believing believers could suddenly find themselves under pressure and persecution, and it can come awfully fast. So he asks whether we are so bound in the hope and power of resurrection that we are not afraid of what they can do to this body of flesh. We should have no fear of death, because death is only temporary because of resurrection power. That is where believers should be.
