Are the Psalms prophetic books?

Yes, the Psalms are prophetic books. They are loaded with prophecy just as much as Isaiah and Daniel, and are a book of prophecy as well as a psalm. David, being a prophet, spoke beforehand of Christ's resurrection, not of himself, because he was dead and buried.

Les explains that most people do not think prophecy comes from the Psalms, but they are loaded with prophecy just as much as Isaiah and Daniel and the rest; it is a book of prophecy as well as a psalm. Peter quotes David's Psalms and shows David was not referring to himself, since David is dead and buried and his sepulcher remains. Because David was a prophet and knew God had sworn an oath to raise up Christ from the fruit of his loins to sit on his throne, David foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of Christ. The king they crucified was raised, so He can still be their king.
