How many denominations are there in America?
There are over a thousand denominations in America alone, as noted in the context. The speaker remarks that none of them agree with each other, resulting in widespread confusion. The only remedy offered is to get into the Book and see what the Word really says.
Les explains that he read recently that there are over a thousand denominations in America alone, and he says you can just about bet that none of them agree with the other. This creates a lot of confusion: one group says this, another says that, and then another fellow says something else. He asks who you are going to believe, and answers that the only thing you can do is get into the Book. He clarifies that he does not tell people to go by what he says, nor does he intend to build a following, but wants to help people see what the Word really says. In that light, he directs attention to Acts chapter 1, verse 8, where Jesus tells the disciples they will receive power after the Holy Spirit comes upon them, and they will be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth.
