What role in the Kingdom did Jesus promise the apostles?

Jesus promised the twelve apostles that they would sit upon twelve thrones, ruling the twelve tribes of Israel. After forty days of speaking about the Kingdom and their role in it, He confirmed this promise, which drove the eleven men's expectancy as they awaited the King's kingdom.

Les explains that after forty days of talking to them about the Kingdom and their role in it, Jesus reminded them of what He had said in Matthew 19: “and you shall sit upon twelve thrones ruling the twelve tribes of Israel.” The context shows Peter and the other ten, later filled up with Matthias, were expectant that the King would set up His Kingdom now. Peter preached to Israel that the One they crucified was indeed their King, and if they believed, the King would return and they could have the Kingdom and the Old Testament promises of going to the Gentiles. God in His foreknowledge knew they would reject it. Les notes this promise and expectancy drove the eleven men, as Peter said they had forsaken all and followed Jesus.

Matthew 19:27

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
