What did Jesus predict would happen to Him in Jerusalem?

Jesus predicted that in Jerusalem everything written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man would be accomplished: He would be scourged, beaten, put to death, and on the third day rise again. Scripture notes the disciples understood none of these things because God hid it from them.

Les teaches that back in Christ's earthly ministry, when they were in northern Israel at Caesarea Philippi at the headwaters of the Jordan River, Jesus said, “We go up to Jerusalem, and everything that has been written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man shall be accomplished.” He specified that they would scourge Him, beat Him, and put Him to death, and that on the third day He would rise again. Yet the disciples understood none of these things because it was hidden from them—God did not let them understand that He was about to be crucified. That explains why the eleven had no idea He was going to die, and after He died they had no idea He was going to be raised. In fact, they went back to Galilee, thinking it was all over and done. Even as late as John’s Gospel chapter 20, when Peter and John ran to the sepulchre, they saw the evidence.
