What is the contrast between the marriage at Cana and the eighth sign's net full of fish?
At Cana, the water pots were filled with wine to complete Israel's national joy, yet the setting was empty and hopeless. By the eighth sign, the net is full of fish, a picture of Israel's regathering; it does not break, and not one fish is lost. It advances the earlier sign.
Les explains that the signs are constantly advancing on a previous sign. At the marriage of Cana there was no joy; everything was empty and hopeless. There Jesus filled the water pots with wine to complete the nation's joy and happiness. By the eighth sign, the net is full of fishes. Although so full it would ordinarily break, it did not break and not a fish was lost. Les says this is a picture of the regathering of Israel, which he connects to Ezekiel 37. When God regathers the children of Israel, the net will not break and He will not lose one or two. This contrasts with Luke 4, where the disciples let down the net and it broke, and they lost their fish.
