What was the Judean wilderness like where the scapegoat was released?

The Judean wilderness was barren and uninhabitable, described as God-forsaken. It was an unknown, untracked wilderness, unlike the familiar landscape of Oklahoma. The live scapegoat, bearing Israel’s sins symbolically, was taken alive out into this desolate, untracked region and released.

Les explains that from our part of beautiful Oklahoma we cannot comprehend the barren wilderness of Judea, and maybe even some of the Middle Eastern desert country. He describes it as wilderness, uninhabitable, and God-forsaken. The live goat, over which the sins of Israel would be symbolically placed, was taken alive clear out into the unknown, untracked wilderness and let go.
