What did John call Jesus when he saw him coming?

When John saw Jesus coming, he called Him the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John gave Jesus that title, and the passage links Him to Christ our Passover, who is sacrificed for us.

Les points out that when John saw Jesus coming, he called Him the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Les connects that title with Paul's statement in I Corinthians 5:7, where Paul writes, "Purge out therefore the old leaven... for even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us." Les explains that leaven always spoke of sin and evil, and that purging it out pictures salvation taking away the stigma of sin. He notes that Christ is the Passover Lamb, and he takes the listener back to Exodus chapter 12 to see the picture of the Passover, since, as Paul says in Romans 15, the things written before time in the Old Testament are written for our learning, not necessarily for our doctrine, but for our learning. Les stresses there is a big difference between the two, and that learning the pictures and types of the Old Testament enhances what we have to understand in the New.
