Which Gospels are called the synoptic Gospels?

The synoptic Gospels are Matthew, Mark, and Luke. They are called synoptic because they deal primarily with Jesus' humanity, while John's Gospel deals with His deity. Many events in the synoptic Gospels, such as the temptations and Gethsemane agony, are not recorded in John.

Les explains that Matthew, Mark, and Luke are what are called the synoptic Gospels, and they deal primarily with His humanity side of everything. John's Gospel, by contrast, deals with His deity. Because of this, many things covered in the synoptic Gospels are not mentioned in John. For example, the temptations are recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke but not in John. Likewise, His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane is recorded in all three synoptic Gospels, but it is not recorded in John's Gospel, because that was part of His humanity and suffering.
