What did Jesus promise would be told wherever the gospel is preached?
Jesus promised that wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, the act of the woman who anointed His body for burial would also be told as a memorial of her. He declared that her deed would be remembered alongside the preaching of the gospel.
Les explains that in verse 13 Jesus said, “Wheresoever this gospel... shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.” The “this gospel” is that He was the Christ, that Jesus of Nazareth was who He said He was. The woman had poured ointment on His body in view of His burial, though the disciples did not understand. Les notes she is the only one of the inner circle who does not go to the tomb, suggesting the Lord may have revealed something to her. Her act is remembered throughout Christendom.
Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
