What does it mean to be under grace?

Being under grace means the believer is not under the law or legalism, but rests in God's undeserved favor and mercy. Grace is God's attribute that pours out mercy on sinners because of Christ's work at the cross, not because of human merit; when believers fall, He restores them.

Les teaches that today we are not under the law but under grace (s301–s305). He explains that grace is God's attribute capable of pouring out undeserved favor and mercy on sinners like us, sons of Adam, and all because of the love poured out at the cross (s309–s314). Unlike legalism, which would make Christ's death vain, grace does not require us to fly in the face of God's grace by saying we must do something because the law says so (s292–s296). Paul says, "I do not frustrate the grace of God, for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain" (s323–s326). God doesn't expect us never to fall; when we do, He is right there ready to pick us up and put us on our way (s283–s285).
